Online application tips
- If you are a former University of Melbourne student or past applicant, you need to apply using your previous University of Melbourne student/application/user ID number. It will be possible for you to request these details during the first step of the application process.
- In order to submit your online application successfully, you will need to respond to all mandatory application requirements and, as a final step, to agree to the terms and conditions of application.
- If your application has been successful, you will receive an application confirmation email from the University of Melbourne. Please contact us if you do not receive this email, as it may signal problems with the submission of your application.
- If you have any questions about any aspect of your application, please do not hesitate to contact us or refer to information on the Graduate School of Humanities & Social Sciences website.
- You can check the status of your application, change your application preferences, withdraw your application, or lodge an application for a different course, by logging back into the Online Application using the username and password emailed to you when you first applied.
- The GSHSS Admissions Office deals with a large number of applications and documents, so please ensure all documents sent to us, either by email or post, are clearly identified with:
- Your name,
- The course/s and course code/s for which you have applied,
- Your application user ID (which corresponds with your University of Melbourne student ID number).
- Application preferences must be registered online if your intention is to apply for more than one GSHSS course. Keep in mind when applying for multiple programs that:
- Second-preference programs are normally assessed only if your first preference application is unsuccessful.
- If your first preference application is unsuccessful, the Selection Committee will normally try to make an alternative offer for a course that may provide a pathway into your first preference program, based on an assessment of your individual case. It is therefore not always necessary for you to apply for lower level programs as back-up options.
- If Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) are available for the course you are applying for, you will automatically be considered for an Australian Fee Place in that course if your application for a CSP is unsuccessful. It is therefore not necessary to lodge applications for both fee types.
- If you would like more than one GSHSS course application to be assessed, you will need to apply for both programs and then email a special request to arts-gradstudies@unimelb.edu.au.
- If you are applying for a GSHSS course and also course/s in other Graduate School/s you need to ensure your supporting documents are either uploaded during your online application in each case, or that copies of relevant documents are sent afterwards to each relevant Graduate School.
