Tuition fees for local students
The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSHSS) provides Postgraduate (PG) Australian Fee places in Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters by Coursework programs.
Limited Commonwealth supported places (CSPs) are also available in Masters by Coursework and Postgraduate Diploma programs during particular admission periods. A limited number of equity based CSPs are available through the GSHSS Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) scheme to successful Postgraduate Diploma and Masters by Coursework applicants. Masters by Coursework applicants are also considered for CSPs on the basis of academic merit, but should note that this is a highly competitive process. Only course and GAM applications submitted with full documentation by the closing date (of an admissions period with CSPs available) will be considered for a CSP.
Semester 2, 2012
All Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) for GSHSS courses were allocated during the Semester 1, 2012 intake for the 2012 academic year. There are no further CSPs available for the Semester 2, 2012 intake, on the basis of either equity or academic merit. Postgraduate (PG) Australian Fee places remain available for all GSHSS courses for the Semester 2, 2012 intake, and will be offered as a matter of course to CSP applicants.
A limited number of Graduate Access Bursaries, however, are still available for Semester 2, 2012, and will be awarded to a small number of eligible Graduate Access Melbourne applicants, who have also qualified for entry to a GSHSS coursework Masters or Postgraduate Diploma program for Semester 2, 2012. To qualify for Graduate Access Bursary consideration you must lodge a Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM) application form (340kb pdf).
Semester 1, 2013
Information concerning the availability of CSPs for the Semester 1, 2013 intake will be published on the GSHSS homepage in early September 2012.
For local students, there are a number of ways to alleviate the pressure of course fees.
- FEE-HELP: Students enrolled in an Australian fee place may be eligible for a loan from the Australian Government to pay their tuition fees. Further information is available from the Going to Uni FEE-HELP website.
All eligible Australian fee students who wish to request a FEE-HELP loan must make the application either prior to the fee due date, or the subject census date, whichever is the earliest. - FEE-HELP requests are generally made during the online enrolment process. Students who pay their fees by the due date may still apply for FEE-HELP (if eligible) by the subject census date and will be eligible to apply for a refund. After the census date, the Commonwealth Government will not accept the application and fees must be paid in full by the due date.
- If the course has a sufficient connection to your current employment you may be eligible to claim a tax deduction. Consult your accountant or the Australian Taxation Office.
- The Executive Master of Arts, Master of International Relations, and the Master of Cultural Materials Conservation have been approved by Centrelink for Austudy/Youth Allowance purposes. Please visit the Student Financial Aid website, or contact Centrelink for further information.
