Overview
This program is designed for students who are dedicated to pursuing careers in journalism and journalism-related fields, and for journalists and other professional practitioners working in the contemporary media industry who wish to develop additional advanced skills and knowledge.
The industry of journalism is going through major change, and this program teaches the full range of journalism skills and critically engages with the professional conventions of journalism, with ethical and legal issues that impact on journalism, and with contemporary questions such as how new media technologies influence journalism practices.

- Engage with important and challenging issues facing the Australian and global media industries.
- Gain a theoretical and practical grounding in issues such as civics, governance, citizenship, and leadership.
- Investigate key concepts that frame recent developments in fields such as media law, management theory, globalisation, health policy, and climate change.
- Undertake an internship with an external organisation, either in Australia or internationally, and gain valuable practical experience and extend your professional networks.

The first coordinator of this program will be leading Australian media commentator Margaret Simons.

Students may also have the opportunity to undertake interdisciplinary electives which enable the enhancement of skills and knowledge in specialised areas.

Career outcomes
This program will enable students to develop the professional skills necessary to work as a practitioner of journalism across all media, including print, radio, television, online, mobile and social media, and in the media relations and corporate communication sectors. Students will gain advanced skills in researching, writing and producing stories.
Experienced journalists will gain valuable insights into the changes currently taking place in the profession, to advance their skills, and to specialise in a range of areas of growing interest to news consumers.
