Our Facilities and Support

Facilities for research students

In 2009 the Faculty of Arts launched the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, which was purpose-built for research students to the highest calibre.

The first floor of the Old Arts Building underwent extensive renovation and the Graduate School now boasts world-class teaching and learning facilities. The Arts Graduate Hall is a social and informal learning hub, and video conferencing services can assist with cross-institutional collaboration.

Research students have access to their own RHD Reading Room, which is a quiet space with an open-air atrium, which is modeled on the Victorian State Library Reading Room. Visiting scholars are based in hosting offices and deliver talks and seminars in collaborative learning spaces.

The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences sets the benchmark as a resource that offers the opportunity for research students to engage with research and scholarship in a coherent and exciting way.

The Faculty's purpose-built facilities include:

  • Multimedia facilities
  • Building-wide WiFi support
  • Student service centre
  • Student lounge
  • Study and meeting rooms
  • Dedicated lecture and seminar rooms
  • Equipment for loan (voice recorders, video recorders, portable scanners, laptops)
  • Dedicated IT facilities
  • Easy access to parking and public transport
