Creative writing, editing and publishing: Graduate profile

Student Profile: Emma Hall
The program offers the perfect mix of creativity in writing and editing skills subjects, as well as covering a wide range of publishing industry topics.
For someone who has always been passionate about writing, reading and books, going into Publishing seemed like the best move. I completed my Bachelor of Arts majoring in both Creative Writing and English and Theatre Studies in 2014. I loved studying and always knew I would continue to a graduate degree.
My graduate degree is already proving invaluable in my career. I have used so many of the skills I learned in the course every single day in the workplace. The course gave me a great overview of the publishing industry more widely too.
Throughout my studies I was Managing Editor of Antithesis Journal, a graduate journal at the University of Melbourne, which was another valuable learning opportunity.
My internship at Cambridge University Press was a challenging but also very rewarding. I ended up working where I interned which was perfect!
I love the supportive learning community I have been a part of at Melbourne. The friends I've made in my course will be friends for life. The academic vigour of the course was also a big plus for me; while many university writing courses have started to exclude critical theory, the University provides fantastic insight into theory and allows us to build our understanding through discussion.
