Rose-Anna Selhorst

After spending two years working in the Victorian government’s Department of Premier and Cabinet, Rose-Anna Selhorst decided to apply for the Master of Public Policy and Management to gain a deeper understanding of how the public sector works.

Rose-Anna describes the opportunities she’s taken since – such as taking part in a pilot leadership program and completing a semester abroad at the University of Helsinki – as “life-changing”.

“Throughout the degree I have not only developed my policy skills, but my self-awareness and confidence,” Rose-Anna says, which allowed her to make the most of her experience when she was selected by Global Voices as an Australian delegate to the Y20 Summit in Tokyo in 2019.

“These skills were invaluable as I engaged in negotiations with other G20 youth representatives to agree on a communiqué that was presented to our countries’ leaders,” she says.

Rose-Anna’s interest in the field has developed into a genuine passion for engaging young people in public policy.

“I am excited take what I have l learned and share it with other young people, to make policy accessible and interesting,” she says. To that end, she has started her own podcast called What the Policy?, in which young people talk about policy issues and ideas – “but without the politics and confusing language”.
