Student profile: Emily Direen
I chose to do Masters by research over Masters by coursework because I wanted the freedom to follow my own ideas and theoretical interests. And by enrolling in a Masters rather than a PhD, I felt I was giving myself the chance to get back into the swing of study without the level of pressure that is attached to a PhD.
In 2011, the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences received an Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) ranking of 5 across 7 areas of study, and a further ranking of 4 across 15 areas of study. The scores, determined by the Australian Research Council, are well above the world average.
To carry out our research, we align with several research schools and centres.
